Antonius Pegues is my name. I’m an accountant with a bachelors in accounting, a MBA in global finance and currently working on my doctoral in higher education administration at Texas Southern University. I also teach business finance at local universities. My parents were educators and I have always wanted to be a teacher. I ended up teaching business classes at the corporations that I worked for. I’m looking forward to working as a Schweitzer Fellow. My proposed community project is to reinforce the students’ living in the Third ward and Acres Home Houston communities in growing self-efficacy, social development, and sense of commitment to the community by introducing programs to help prevent association with crime, drugs, alcohol and gang affiliation.

My project’s goal is to proactively improve protective factors and diminish the impact of negative factors of drugs, alcohol, crime and gang affiliation that place youth at risk in the Third ward and Acres Home communities. This project will be done in partnership with Change Happens, Inc. A variety of concepts will be offered such as tutoring, character building discussions, and enrichment activities that introduce and challenge students with new concepts, cultures, and a higher standard of excellence. Empowering future generations is the most effective way to combat the destructive forces in torn communities. In the end the project will teach children life skills and how to handle problems constructively.
